Weekly Updates for Luther Memorial Church
Looking Back to See Forward | May 29, 2020
But Moses said to God, “Who am I that I should go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” (Exodus 3:11).
Moses did not think he could lead the people out of Egypt. Moses must have looked at his abilities, looked at his failures, and even looked at his past when he said, “Who am I?” Moses was stuck in how he saw himself and his history. But God, wanted Moses to look further into the past. Moses was a son of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; which meant he was a son of promise. Moses would need to claim that promise if he was going to lead the people out of Egypt.
Winston Churchill once said, “The longer you can look back, the further you can see forward.” In our immediate information age, most of us doubt ourselves. We compare our skills to others and think we do not have what it takes. Even more, we look at our history and see the many mistakes we have made. But God wants us to look deeper into our past. God wants us to see that we are created and wonderfully made. God wants us to claim the promises of life made to us in the holy scriptures. In doing this, we will find a way to bless as we have been blessed.
With love,
Pastor Russ

OUTDOOR CHURCH (Sunday at 10:30 am) – We are making a change to how we do church on Sundays. We are now offering a “parking lot service” outside the Grand View Student Center that begins at 10:30. This is a brief service that includes: confession and absolution, gospel reading, sermon, creed, prayer, words of institution, communion, and the benediction. Instructions: 1) Please arrive before the service so you can receive your bulletins, communion kit, and drop off your offering if you brought one. 2) You can bring a chair to sit on the grass if you would rather not be in a car. 3) Wear red because it is Pentecost Sunday. 4). If you would rather stay at home, please take advantage of our “Online Worship.”
